Paula Kuty, Chief Assistant District Attorney
(408) 792-2701   For release on March 30, 2005   CHIEF ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY TO RETIRE   Santa Clara County Chief Assistant District Attorney Paula Bertinetti Kuty announced today she would retire from the district attorney’s office in May.  As Chief Assistant, she is D.A. George Kennedy’s second in command and is the district attorney when Kennedy is without the county.    Kennedy says there is no better public servant in Santa Clara County than Paula Kuty, and it has been his great good fortune to have worked closely with Kuty as his most trusted person in various assignments as they both rose into increasing responsibility in the d.a.’s office.  Her leaving is an enormous loss to the public and to me personally, Kennedy says.   He adds:  she is an Order-of-a-Coif graduate of U.C. Hastings Law school and was a Latin scholar and accounting undergraduate; she has personally prosecuted jury trials to a verdict of death and has successfully managed every part of the district attorney’s office; she is an ethics expert and ethics adviser to the California District Attorneys Association; she works extremely long hours and believes deeply that district attorney employees must be accountable to the People they serve.    Kennedy said he will move Assistant D.A. Karyn Sinunu to the Chief Assistant spot; Sinunu is currently third in command.
