FROM: Nick Muyo, Public Information Officer   CONTACT PERSON: Nick Muyo, Public Information Officer (408) 792-2997   For release on November 7, 2008     CHIROPRACTOR SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS PRISON FOR INSURANCE FRAUD OVER A THREE YEAR PERIOD   A Santa Clara County Superior Court judge sentenced 42-year-old Robert Arnold Demarco to two years in prison, and ordered him to pay more than $250,000 in full restitution.  Demarco plead guilty to grand theft and presenting a false insurance claim in May, and he was sentenced this week.   Demarco, the owner and operator of a Los Gatos chiropractic office, submitted fraudulent billings to nine different insurance companies.  The total amount of the fraud was $256,916.09.  Demarco was caught when 25 patients received billing statements that did not match the correct treatment they had received.     Demarco submitted the false claims from January 2004 to February 2007.  After a thorough investigation, he was arrested in February 2007.   ###
