(408) 792-2826 For release on May 19, 2009 Craig’s List Predator Sentenced to Life in Prison Twenty-six-year-old Kamari Nelson was sentenced May 8, 2009 to 169-years-to-life in prison by Judge Alden Danner. Nelson was found guilty by a jury on November 3, 2008 of multiple counts of forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration, assault with intent to commit rape, robbery and one count of kidnapping involving two women. The jury also found true allegations that Nelson used a knife during most of the crimes. Nelson targeted women who advertised erotic services on Craig’s List. Both of his victims testified that he called them to his apartment to perform services after seeing their Craig’s List advertisements. When they arrived, Nelson robbed and sexually assaulted them. A third woman reported being sexually assaulted and robbed by Nelson but she committed suicide before she could testify. Two other women testified about Nelson’s attempts to sexually assault them when he was a teenager in Oakland. Because he was convicted of Assault with a Deadly Weapon in 2002, Nelson’s sentence was further aggravated. Nelson was only caught because his victims were brave enough to report him to police. San Jose Police detectives discovered multiple items belonging to the victims in Nelson’s home, as well as a video camera containing a movie of part of one of the attacks. Each of the victims told police that Nelson either photographed or video-taped them at some point during the assault. ###
