(408) 792-2632 DA PARTNERS WITH COMMUNITY LEADERS FOR ANNUAL SJPD GUN BUYBACK The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office is joining other community leaders next week to support the San Jose Police Department’s Annual Gun Buyback. The series of buybacks has collected about 2,300 unwanted weapons. Those who turn in a firearm will receive a Target gift card. A $100 card will be given for handguns, rifles, and shotguns and a $200 card will be given for assault weapons. No questions asked. The buybacks are intended to lower the odds that the weapons will end up in the hands of a child, a gang member, or a robber. “Every unwanted gun has the tragic potential to be used in a shooting (accidental or intentional), a robbery or a homicide,” DA Rosen said. “Hopefully we can collect a few hundred more on Saturday, December 3.” This program is a partnership among San Jose City Council Office District 2, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, San Jose Police Department, Office of Santa Clara County District 1, and Office of California Assembly District 29. Please transport UNLOADED weapons in the trunk of your car. No walk-ups. No ammunition. Funds are limited. We reserve the right to limit funds to an individual, regardless of the number of weapons surrendered. Funding for this event is raised from public and private donors. Tax-deductible donated funds are held by the San Jose Police Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) account.
