What are the unforeseen downsides of legalization in the nation’s most populous state? Should there be a driving while high law? What is going wrong in Colorado and other states during the “Green Rush?”
“We are hoping that people will go to the voting booths this November knowing what is at stake and making an informed choice,” said Patrick Vanier, the head of the District Attorney’s Narcotics Unit. “The legalization of marijuana is a complex issue - one that affects people who use it and those who don’t. Our goal is to make sure that – regardless of what happens in November – people understand the potential community impact.” The Silicon Valley Marijuana Awareness ConferenceMarijuana Use and Abuse: The Myths, Facts, and What Every Community Should Know The symposium - co-sponsored by Supervisor Cindy Chavez and the County’s Department of Behavioral Health - will be held September 8, 2016, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and September 9, 2016, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Clara Convention Center. The event – which will include lunch and beverages - costs $65 a person with early registration; $100 after August 19. “I am looking forward to the summit where national experts will share important information about the health impacts of marijuana use, especially as it relates to our youth,” Supervisor Chavez said. Confirmed speakers at the event include: Dr. Kevin Sabet - Director of the Drug Policy Institute at the University of Florida and Founder of Policy Solutions Group; Dr. Bertha Madras - Professor of Psychobiology at Harvard School of Medicine; Representatives from Colorado, Oregon, Washington, and Washington DC to speak on the impact of legalization in those areas. # # #
