DISTRICT ATTORNEY ANNOUNCES NEW CRIME LAB DIRECTOR District Attorney Jeff Rosen announces that Ian Fitch will become the Santa Clara County Crime Lab Director, taking the position of retiring Lab Director Benny DelRe. Mr. Fitch graduated from University of Kent, Canterbury, England with a Ph.D. in Microbiology and from the University of East Anglia, Norwich, England with a B.Sc. (First Class Honors) in Biological Sciences, specializing in Genetics. Mr. Fitch was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of California, San Francisco. He has worked for the San Diego Police Department Crime Laboratory as a DNA Technical Leader and Trainer; as a supervisor with the Santa Clara County Crime Lab; and most recently as the Crime Laboratory Director for the Colorado Springs Police Department Metro Crime Laboratory. Mr. Fitch is an American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB) Legacy Inspector.
Mr. Fitch is highly respected and is known as an expert in DNA. Mr. Fitch is organized, likable and hardworking. His record of achievement demonstrates his integrity and high ethical standards.
DA Rosen said that among the exceptionally well-qualified candidates for Santa County Crime Lab Director, Ian Fitch had the best experience and judgment to bring Rosen’s vision of service, hard work, transparency and integrity to all divisions of the District Attorney’s Office. # # #
