(408) 792-2529   For release on June 20, 2007     DOCTOR ARRESTED FOR SUBJECTING ELDER PATIENT TO UNNECESSARY SURGERY AFTER FALSIFYING REPORT TO SHOW HE HAD PROSTATE CANCER   On Wednesday, June 20, 2007, Doctor Ali Moayed, age 42, was arrested on charges of Penal Code Section 368(b)(1), Elder Abuse, 243(d),  Battery with Serious Bodily Injury, Penal Code Section 550(a)(5), Health Insurance Fraud, Penal Code Section 487, Grand Theft and Penal Code Section 72, Medi-Cal Fraud.    Doctor Moayed, a former urologist based in Los Gatos, is accused of fraudulently obtaining consent from an 87-year old patient for a surgical procedure after falsifying the patient’s pathology report to show he had prostate cancer.   Records indicate that Doctor Moayed falsified the pathology reports of three patients, recommending that all three undergo a “brachytherapy.”  This is a form of radiation therapy that requires the patient to undergo general anesthesia to insert a radioactive “seed” through a needle into or adjacent to the target cancer.   If you think you or anyone you know has been a victim of Doctor Moayed, please contact Deputy District Attorney Bill Butler at (408) 792-2529 or Medical Board of California Investigator Victor Sandoval at (408) 437-3685.   ###
