FROM: Amy Cornell, Public Information Officer CONTACT PERSON: Dale B. Lohman, Deputy District Attorney Major Fraud Unit (408) 792-2599 For release on October 30, 2008 FORMER MCAFEE EMPLOYEE ARRESTED FOR THEFT 35-year old Susan Despinic, of Los Gatos and her husband, 37-year old Aurawm Almaneih, were arrested yesterday on grand theft charges, following a lengthy investigation by Santa Clara County Office of the District Attorney. This case came to light during the investigation by the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety of another former McAfee employee, Ayshah Maiorano, who was arrested on similar charges in December of 2007. That case is still pending. The new complaint alleges that Despinic, who worked for software provider McAfee, Inc. between May of 2005 and August of 2007, misused her position as a Product Marketing Manager to direct more than $3,800,000 of McAfee business to outside vendors in which she had an undisclosed financial interest. At least one of these vendors was a “shell” company set up by Despinic and her husband for their own benefit. Despinic’s bail is currently set at $1,000,000. Almaneih’s bail is set at $500,000. If convicted on all charges, the defendants could face seven years in state prison. Their next court date is November 14, 2008. ###
