(408) 792-2744 For release on January 24, 2005 FORMER SAN JOSE COUNCIL MEMBER TERRY GREGORY SURRENDERS TO AUTHORITIES Santa Clara County District Attorney George Kennedy today announced that former San Jose Council Member Terry Gregory surrendered to authorities this morning on a warrant charging him with 11 misdemeanor violations of the Government Code. The 11 counts stem from his failure to report 8 gifts and 1 loan on a conflict of interest form that he filed on April 1, 2004 as well as two occasions when he improperly participated in government decisions where he had a financial conflict of interest. A court date of March 24, 2005 has been set. Mr. Gregory has agreed to enter no contest pleas to all charges. The maximum penalty for each of these 11 misdemeanor offenses is 6 months in the county jail and a fine of up to $10,000.00. Under the terms of a settlement agreement with the District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Gregory’s sentence will not include any incarceration in the county jail. However, Mr. Gregory may be placed on probation, ordered to perform community service, and to pay various fines and fees as well as restitution as determined by the Court.
