(408) 792-2702   For release on July 15, 2004     GRAND JURY HEARING TO BE PUBLIC   The foreperson of a Santa Clara County criminal grand jury joined the Santa Clara County District Attorney in requesting that the hearing scheduled to begin July 19, 2004, regarding the death of Rodolfo Cardenas, be opened to the public. Presiding Judge Thomas P. Hansen, Santa Clara County Superior Court, granted the request.   Rudy Cardenas, 43, was shot when a state parole agent and agents from the California Department of Justice’s Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement attempted to arrest a parolee-at-large. Agents incorrectly believed that Cardenas was the parolee they sought. His identity was learned after he died.   The hearing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on July 19, 2004, at the Old Courthouse located at 161 North First Street, San Jose, in Department 22.   # # #
