Jeff Rosen, Santa Clara County District Attorney-Elect
(408) 792-2822   For immediate release on December 9, 2010     JAY BOYARSKY WILL SERVE AS THE CHIEF ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY   I am pleased to announce my selection of Jay Boyarsky as the Chief Assistant District Attorney of Santa Clara County, effective January 3, 2011—the same day that I will take the oath of office as District Attorney. Jay is a 16-year-veteran Santa Clara County prosecutor. I’ve chosen Jay because of his character, intelligence and experience. I highly respect and trust his judgment and commitment to the District Attorney’s Office.   I have known Jay and worked with him for the 15 years that I have been a prosecutor. I have observed Jay’s tremendous skills both inside and outside the courtroom. In the courtroom, he has been a strong and effective advocate for public safety and victims’ rights, particularly the rights of women and children who have been sexually assaulted and abused. He has prosecuted 35 jury trials. Outside the courtroom, he supervised more than 40 attorneys and support staff when he was selected by former District Attorney George Kennedy to run the DA’s North County offices in Palo Alto and Sunnyvale from 2001 to 2007.   Jay graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz with honors in 1987. After a year substitute teaching in Los Angeles, Jay attended Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley graduating in 1991. After leaving law school, Jay was a law clerk for the Honorable William A. Ingram of the Federal District Court, Northern District of California, one of Santa Clara County’s most revered judges. Following that clerkship, Jay was a civil litigator at the San Francisco law firm of Steefel, Levitt & Weiss (now known as Manatt, Phelps & Phillips).   Jay has worked on various teams within the Office over the last 16 years. He is currently prosecuting sexually violent predators. He is known throughout California for his expertise in hate crime prosecution.   Jay has been active in the legal and broader community. Jay worked with State Senator Elaine Alquist to pass legislation that extended the statute of limitations for victims of child molestation. Jay was a candidate for Superior Court in 2008 and was honored to have received the endorsement of every endorsing police officer association in Santa Clara County as well as community leaders, civil rights groups and legal organizations. He is a longtime member of the William A. Ingram Inn of Court and the California District Attorneys Association. He is Chair of the Criminal Justice Committee of the Network for a Hate-Free Community. Jay has served on city commissions in Palo Alto. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Pacific Region of the Anti-Defamation League. Jay is married with two small children.   The Chief Assistant District Attorney is responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the District Attorney’s Office and carrying out the functions of the District Attorney when I am away from the Office. He will implement my vision of an outstanding prosecutor’s office, with high ethical standards of conduct that vigorously pursues equal justice for all.   The only shortcoming Jay possesses is an undying loyalty to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim – no one is perfect.   # # #
