JURY CONVICTS SILVER CREEK VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB BURGLAR   On Thursday May 11, 2007 the jury returned guilty verdicts against Susan Marie Hjeltness, 48 of San Jose for one count of first degree burglary and three counts of second degree burglary.  The defendant was also found to have taken property valued at over $50,000.00 from one of the residences.  She faces up to 8 years 4 months in state prison.  She is scheduled to be sentenced June 1, 2007 in Department 41 before the Honorable Alfonzo Fernandez.    According to the evidence at trial, Hjeltness and co-defendant John Chacon posed as home buyers in the Silver Creek Valley Country Club between July and October 2006.  In October 2006 one home buyer returned from a trip to discover that the entire collection of Hummel figurines his wife had been collecting for 20 years was missing.  On October 17, 2007 the San Jose Police Department served a search warrant on the defendant’s homes and recovered over 150 stolen items including items stolen from other residences in the Country Club.    During the trial, DA Investigator Dennis Brookins tracked down the co-defendant John Chacon in Nebraska and convinced him to surrender to authorities there.  Brookins also located the remaining stolen property in the case which included over 20 additional Hummel figurines and a large decorative centerpiece taken from a different home.  Mr. Chacon was arraigned in Department 41 yesterday just minutes before the jury returned a verdict against his co-defendant.  He is scheduled to appear in Department 23 on Wednesday May 16, 2007 at 2:00 p.m.   ###
