408-792-2997   For release on October 2, 2007   NEW PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER   Santa Clara County District Attorney Dolores Carr announced today that she has hired Amy Cornell as the Office’s first full-time Public Information Officer.   Ms. Cornell recently received her Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.  During her coursework, Ms. Cornell participated in a research project involving the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children.  In addition, her studies and interests included law, drug abuse, criminal justice policy and planning, and victims and offenders of crimes.   Ms. Cornell also has a media background.  She has worked as a television news reporter and fill-in anchor in Chico.  Prior to that, she was a news producer and writer for a television station in Sacramento.  She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Community and Regional Development from the University of California at Davis.   District Attorney Dolores Carr said “Hiring a full-time Public Information Officer has been a top priority of mine since taking office.  I want to communicate with the public more effectively about our work and to do more community outreach.  I am pleased to have someone of Ms. Cornell’s background and experience in this position.”    ###
