DA FLASH ALERT: WESTERN UNION OFFERS REFUNDS TO SCAM VICTIMS

Western Union customers who were scammed into sending money through the wire service may be due a refund.

Western Union has agreed to refund $586,000,000 to its customers who were duped by scammers to wire money via Western Union, between January 1, 2004 and January 19, 2017.

The scammers used many different ruses to steal the money, claiming to be tax collectors, representatives of lotteries, police officers, grandchildren in jail, etc.

To receive a refund, victims must file a claim with Western Union before May 31, 2018. We urge all victims not to wait for this deadline and file their claim as soon as possible.

For more information and detailed filing instructions, please visit the FTC’s website.
