The District Attorney’s Office, Gilroy, Morgan Hill Police Departments Hold
Joint Press Conference Regarding South County Gun Buyback
The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office is partnering with the Gilroy and Morgan Hill police departments next Tuesday, December 10th at 10:00 a.m. to promote the upcoming South County Gun Buyback.
On December 14th, the Office, South County police departments, and others are sponsoring a $50,000 gun buyback in the South Bay. The gun buyback, South County’s first buyback in 25 years, is aimed at getting unwanted weapons out of homes and away from the hands of criminals, mentally unstable people, and children. At the event, people can anonymously turn in unwanted guns at the Gilroy Corporation Yard and receive cash. No questions will be asked about whose gun it is or where it came from.
The buyback comes less than three months after a mass shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival left three victims dead and 17 wounded; and close to four months after a shooting at a car dealership in Morgan Hill that left two victims dead.
“Our communities are still grieving, but we are not standing still,” District Attorney Jeff Rosen said. “We’re hoping we can turn a lot of dangerous and unwanted weapons gathering dust in safes, closets and garages into a happier, safer holiday season in Santa Clara County.”
