FROM:  Amy Cornell, Public Information Officer   CONTACT PERSON: James Sibley, Deputy District Attorney Real Estate Fraud Unit (408) 792-2823   For release on June 20, 2008   NOTORIOUS FORMER CENTURY 21 SU CASA AGENT AND SON ARRESTED   Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office investigators arrested former real estate agent Gloria Alvarez and her son, Ricardo Alvarez, in San Jose this week. Ms. Alvarez, who had most recently been living in Mexico, faces eleven felony charges, including allegations of Conspiracy and Grand Theft. Ricardo Alvarez (aka Felix Alvarez, Ricardo Pedraza, Ricardo Alvarez Pedraza, Felix Ricardo, Pedraza Alvarez, & Ricardo Rios), a licensed Notary, faces 7 felony counts. Both mother and son could be sentenced to over 14 years in state prison if convicted. Also charged in the complaint is Alvarez’s sister, Patricia Alvarez (aka Carmen Alvarez Madrigal). The charged felonies involve three 2006 property transactions. However, investigations into additional victims and other alleged crimes are ongoing. Ms. Alvarez has been the subject of more complaints to the Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office Real Estate Fraud Unit than any other individual real estate agent. Because many of Ms. Alvarez’s complaining victims have lost their home to foreclosure, investigators are having difficulty locating the victims.   Anyone who has filed a complaint against Gloria Alvarez is encouraged to update his or her contact information with the Real Estate Fraud Unit’s Paralegal, Carol Vega (408) 792-2639.   ###
