(408) 792-2997   For release on January 13, 2010     REACT TASK FORCE AGENTS MAKE ARREST IN IDENTITY THEFT OPERATION FROM SAN JOSE MOTEL   On Monday, January 11th at approximately 2:00pm, agents from the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team (REACT) arrested four people involved in identity theft at the Days Inn on Monterey and Senter Rd. in San Jose. Two of the people arrested were on parole for theft related crimes including robbery and being a parolee at large. Agents recovered several items of stolen mail, counterfeit mailbox keys and methamphetamine from the motel room used by the suspects. So far, the investigation has revealed an estimate of more than 100 victims of the identity theft operation. Two stolen cars used by the suspects were also recovered at the motel as a result of the investigation by REACT agent Al Corona. Also involved in the arrest and investigation was the Regional Auto Theft Task Force (RATTF) and officers from the San Jose Police Department METRO unit.   REACT is a multi-agency Bay Area task force designated for high-technology crimes investigation and prosecution. Its members include investigators, computer forensic experts, and prosecutors from agencies around the Bay Area. REACT is administered by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. Agent Corona’s home agency is the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.   ###
