(408)792-2724   For release on February 9, 2011     SAN JOSE MAN PLEADS NO CONTEST IN ILLEGAL REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT SCHEME   On February 7, 2011, 45 year-old Tuan Van Do of San Jose entered a no contest plea in Santa Clara County Superior Court to felony grant theft for perpetrating a fraudulent investment scheme. Do doing business as “Bi Real Estate Investments,” persuaded a victim to contribute $80,000 to Do’s investment venture involving the purchase of residential or commercial properties, which had been foreclosed upon or were in need of major repairs. However, instead of investing the victim’s money, Do converted it to his own use.   On March 9, Do will be sentenced to serve 10 months in the county jail. As a part of his sentence, Do will be ordered to pay restitution to the victim.   This case was investigated by Detective Mark Huiskens of the San Jose Police Department Financial Crimes Unit at 408-277-4521.   ###
