CONTACT: SAN JOSE MAN PLEADS TO STABBING ALDON SMITH
Deputy District Attorney
A San Jose man has pleaded “no contest” to stabbing Aldon Smith during a house party at the football player’s home in 2012. Steven Raymond Barba, 28, made the plea and was convicted last week for assault with a deadly weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm, both felonies. Barba is expected to be sentenced to three years in state prison on July 15, 2014 before the Hon. Hector Ramon. On November 3, 2012, Barba was attending a party at Smith’s San Jose home that turned violent. When Smith tried to disperse the raucous crowd, Barba stabbed Smith in the torso twice, and fled. Smith, who was not seriously injured, was treated at the hospital and released. Barba was identified by law enforcement who reviewed the security camera footage. He was arrested on July 10, 2012 and has been in custody.
