(408) 792-2720   SAN JOSE MURDER SUSPECT EXTRADITED FROM MEXICO   A San Jose man was arraigned today on charges that he savagely killed a former girlfriend, texted her boyfriend a photo of her body, and then hid out in Mexico for almost three years.
The FBI found Julio Pliego, 46, near Mexico City. He was extradited this week.
If convicted of the murder charges, then Pliego could face life in prison. He is scheduled to enter a plea on April 12, 2016, at 1:30 in dept. 34, at the Hall of Justice, in San Jose. Bail was denied.
Said prosecutor Katrina Ohde: “If the defendant thought he was going to live happily ever after in Mexico after committing a savage and senseless crime, then the FBI and these charges have proved him wrong. We look forward to holding him fully accountable for the murder of Veronica Lozano.”
On May 15, 2013, Lozano’s boyfriend tried to reach her by cell phone only to get a chilling response:  Pliego answered the phone and said that he was going to send photos showing what he had done. The boyfriend begged him not to hurt her. In response, Pliego texted the distraught boyfriend a photo of Lozano, naked and bleeding. When the boyfriend asked Pliego to get Lozano to the hospital, Pliegio replied that it was too late.
Two hours later, an employee at the San Jose Holiday Inn Express called police to report that a dead woman was lying on the floor of a rented room. Lozano, the 35-year-old hairstylist and mother of four, had been stabbed about 40 times and was shot in the head at close range with a shotgun. The room was rented to Pliego.
Late last year police tracked the suspect to Mexico, where he fled soon after the slaying.   # # #
