SANTA CLARA COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY AND SUNNYVALE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCE ARREST IN 2005 SUNNYVALE COLD CASE MURDER
Following a cooperative effort between the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, the Santa Clara County District Attorney Cold Case Unit, and the Santa Clara County District Attorney Crime Laboratory, Gary Swierski, 50 of Sunnyvale, California, has been arrested for the murder of his wife, Ms. Reina Swierski. Ms. Swierski was first reported missing in March of 2005. Although her body has never been found, police recovered a skull in April of 2008, near Boulder Creek, California. DNA testing later determined that the skull was Ms. Swierski’s.
Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Officers arrested Gary Swierski yesterday, after an exhaustive six year investigation. Sunnyvale detectives brought the case to the attention of prosecutors following District Attorney Jeff Rosen’s announcement that he intended to re-establish the office’s Cold Case Unit. The tireless efforts of the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety combined with the assistance of the District Attorney Cold Case Unit and Crime Laboratory led to the arrest of Gary Swierski.
Gary Swierski will be arraigned tomorrow, February 25, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. in Department 88 of the Superior Court in Palo Alto.
If anyone has any information regarding this case, please call Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Detective Greg Giguiere, at (408) 730-7288.
