On January 28, 2002, David Vincent Lynch pleaded guilty to twenty-four felony charges of commercial burglary. Lynch is scheduled to be sentenced on April 25, 2002, at 1:30 p.m., in Department 88 of the Palo Alto Courthouse.   Lynch broke into twenty-four businesses, mostly technology companies, in Mountain View and Sunnyvale over a nine-month period. Mountain View Police Detectives analyzed the string of break-ins from March to November and developed a profile of the burglar. Using this profile, detectives predicted the area the burglar would strike next. Stakeouts of that area lead to evidence linking Lynch with the burglaries.   Officers stopped Lynch on November 3, 2001, for an outstanding warrant shortly after a commercial burglary fitting their profile was reported. The officers found a stolen laptop computer in Lynch’s car. The laptop belonged to the company that had been burglarized minutes earlier. During the course of his crime spree, Lynch stole or damaged over $120,000 worth of property.   ###
