TERRY BOWMAN SELECTED AS ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY

I am pleased to announce my selection of Terry Bowman as an Assistant District Attorney of Santa Clara County.  Ms. Bowman is both an outsider and an insider.  For the last seven years, she worked at the law firm Rains, Lucia & Stern where she made partner.  Ms. Bowman’s private legal practice focused on the representation of peace officers in administrative, employment and criminal matters.  From 1996 through 2002, Ms. Bowman was a Deputy District Attorney in this Office where she excelled.  She successfully prosecuted 40 jury trials, including robbery, rape, child molestation, and murder.  In 2000, she became the youngest person in the history of the Office to receive the prestigious Napoleon Menard Award for Trial Lawyer of the Year.

Ms. Bowman has first hand experience defending individuals charged with crimes and prosecuting criminal defendants.  She understands the critical importance of the rights of the accused and the ethical responsibilities of the District Attorney’s Office in balancing those rights and the safety of the public.

Ms. Bowman graduated cum laude from the University of California at Davis in 1991 with a major in International Relations.  She attended law school at the University of San Francisco and joined the Bar in 1994.

Ms. Bowman says “It has been an honor to be a partner at Rains, Lucia & Stern.  I look forward to continuing my work with law enforcement in a different capacity—returning to the DA’s Office and to public service.  I am excited for the new challenges that await me in this position and it is a privilege to return to my first professional home.  I am thrilled to be part of the Administration of such a forward-thinking prosecutor’s office.”

Ms. Bowman is the devoted mother of two adorable children.  She is fluent in Spanish.  Her charismatic personality and sense of humor have made her a favorite with prosecutors, defense attorneys, judges, police officers, and crime victims.  In her spare time, Ms. Bowman enjoys historical fiction and being a Little League mom.
 
Assistant District Attorneys are part of the executive management team and are responsible for developing and implementing the best practices in criminal prosecution.  Ms. Bowman shares my desire to create and maintain an outstanding prosecutor’s office, with high ethical standards of conduct that vigorously pursues public safety and equal justice for all.
