Meet our CAC Staff Member Darcy the Wonder Dog! Darcy is our Facility Dog that works with youth and staff at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Santa Clara County (CAC). Her job is to provide comfort, support, and a sense of safety to CAC guests.

Facility dogs are highly trained assistance dogs that work in professional settings, such as therapy, counseling, social work, education, and occupational therapy. Darcy was specially bred and trained by the Assistance Dogs of the West (ADW) in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Darcy loves to meet new people, especially the youth at the CAC. Darcy’s work at the CAC involves providing support for CAC guests for forensic interviews and or medical appointments. Her role is to alleviate anxiety and provide a calming force.

Research has shown that the presence of a dog can have positive impact and significantly lower the heart rate, blood pressure, and stress biomarkers of a child during an interview.  It can also reduce anxiety and promote feelings of contentment and security. (Courthouse Dogs Foundation, 2019).

Darcy welcomes you to the CAC!
