Two East Bay men charged for involvement in a string of mall burglaries

Two men from the East Bay have been charged with their involvement in a string of burglaries from two San Jose malls.

Raheem Lewis, 22, of Antioch, and Dwayne Huntley, 19, of Hayward, will be arraigned today at 1:30 in department 24 in the Hall of Justice in San Jose. Charges include organized retail theft, commercial burglary, and grand theft.  If convicted, both defendants face incarceration.

District Attorney Jeff Rosen said: “These are more than crimes of opportunity. They affect the safety of shop owners, consumers, and the community. We are prosecuting these individuals to hold them accountable, get restitution for the victims, and protect the public.”

The charges for both defendants stem from burglaries at Macy’s department stores located at Valley Fair and Oakridge Mall on November 23, 2021. Huntley is also charged for a November 21st incident at the Sunglass Hut in Valley Fair. Both suspects were arrested on November 23rd by San Jose Police Department as they attempted to flee officers at Valley Fair. Huntley was out on bail on other theft charges at the time of this incident.

Subsequent investigation as well as evidence seized from a cellphone, including a photograph of a suspect holding a machine gun, led officers to believe that both suspects were involved in other thefts. The investigation is ongoing.
